In a career that spans more than 30 years, Dudley Gray has continuously
brought a cutting-edge creative vision to his photography. His body of
work includes architectural, interior, editorial, corporate, and
advertising photos, and his artistry shines forth in his brilliant use
of light, color, and selective detail—all visible in countless
unforgettable images that have been exhibited and published worldwide.
When Gray arrived in New York in the late 60s with a Fine Arts degree in
painting, he immediately felt compelled to pay homage to this great and
exciting city; it was the same enthusiasm that had led so many artists
to document their environment. And he did so not with a paintbrush, but
with a camera. Gray’s unique photographs of New York’s magnificent
buildings and monuments help us view the environment through fresh eyes,
and expand our vision of the city. His groundbreaking “Landmark
Illuminations” images—documents from a collaborative series of lighting
projects that he and conceptual artist Joe Strand produced in the
mid-seventies—are a testament to his passionate relationship with New
York’s structures.
Today, Dudley Gray continues to focus on architecture and interiors. He
produces commercial images for a variety of prestigious clients,
including a number of major real estate firms. At the same time, Gray
devotes himself to a more personal form of artwork, integrating drawing
and painting with his photographs to create distinctive collages. |
